Where: Fairmount Avenue, between 14th & 15th Streets, Newark

When: Tuesday, September 18; 11:00 a.m.

New Jersey is one of the wealthiest states in the country. However, a large disparity exists between New Jersey’s affluent residents and the overwhelming poor population residing in Essex County. The United Way of Essex and West Hudson is committed to changing community conditions for these vulnerable residents by working with Habitat for Humanity to build affordable housing. On September 18, volunteers from local colleges and corporations will work together to help deserving Newark families during “Lend a Helping Hand” Week.

“Lend a Helping Hand Week exemplifies the United Way system at work – making the most of caring for the lives of people in need,” says Faith Vance, Coordinator for the United Way of Essex and West Hudson.

United Way volunteers will donate their time and energy to help Habitat for Humanity Newark (HFHN) improve the lives of low income families. All tools and materials will be supplied by Habitat and volunteers will work under the guidance of a professional construction foreperson and trained professional volunteers.

For additional information on this event please contact Faith Vance by phone at (973) 868-2447. Media is invited to attend at any time to see people framing, sheet rocking, siding, landscaping and putting in insulation.
