Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey is seeking amateur and professional comedians to compete in its ninth annual anniversary celebration “Laugh Off” which is back by popular demand.
This enormously successful event was designed in 2000 to raise awareness about Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey (GCNNJ). The club, which is an affiliate of the national organization Gilda’s Club Worldwide, was named for the late Gilda Radner of Saturday Night Live fame. Radner died in 1989 of cancer, and the clubhouse was created to fulfill Gilda’s wish that no one go through a cancer diagnosis alone.
In honor of Radner’s comedic spirit, GCNNJ’s clubhouse will be transformed for the Laugh-Off into a simulated comedy club for three audition nights followed by a grand finale evening. Laugh-Off is coordinated for the 9th consecutive year, by Paterson born, native north Jersey comedienne, Sunda Croonquist.
The live audition dates for this year’s Laugh-Off are March 5, March 12, and March 19 at Gilda’s Club, 575 Main Street, Hackensack.
“Laugh-Off is one of our most popular events at Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey,” states GCNNJ CEO Mary G. Connolly. “Comedians come from all over to exhibit their talents, and it is a wonderful community event celebrating life. The clubhouse transforms into a comedy club where members and others from the community share an evening of laughter in the spirit of Gilda Radner.”
How To Audition
The deadline to apply for an audition is Wednesday, February 27. Audition space is limited and advance registration is required. In addition to submitting a video or DVD performance (limited to 10 min. maximum), those interested should send their name, address, telephone number, email address, head shot, and resume of performance history to: Laugh-Off, Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey, 575 Main Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601.
APPLICATIONS WITHOUT A VIDEO OR DVD OF A PERFORMANCE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
“One finalist will be selected from each of the three auditions,” Connolly explains, “to compete in the finale on April 3, 2008 at Bananas Comedy Club in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey.”
