allnurses.com, the largest peer-to-peer online networking site for nurses and nursing students, announced the launch of its “Thank a Nurse” initiative – just in time for National Nurse Appreciation Week, May 6 to May 12, 2014. Friends, family, colleagues or anyone who appreciates the hard work and dedication of the nearly 20 million practicing nurses worldwide is encouraged to spread the love and Thank a Nurse.
For consumers who might not see a nurse in person this week, allnurses.com is offering an easy way send some thanks and appreciation. Simply visit allnurses.com and input your message. The note will be featured on the Thank a Nurse website and users will also have the option to send a message directly to a nurse through email. Then, share it on social media using the hashtag #ThankANurse to spread the word.
“As a nurse myself, I know that it is a tremendously rewarding profession,” said Brian Short, Founder of allnurses.com. “But, there are times when it is frustrating, stressful and even heartbreaking. You’d be surprised how two simple words can make a big difference in a nurse’s day.”
Established by the American Nurses Association (ANA), National Nurse Appreciation Week occurs annually from May 6th (National Nurses Day) to May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. The ANA also recognizes National Student Nurses Day on May 8th and National School Nurses Day on the Wednesday of National Nurses Week.
