AT&T New Jersey announces its support of Club Tech, the New Jersey Boys & Girls Club technology initiative. On February 13, Boys & Girls Club teens will be joined by Mike Schweder, president of AT&T New Jersey; Senators Ronald Rice and Teresa Ruiz; and Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker in making the announcement.
Club Tech is a national partnership between Boys & Girls Clubs of America, founding partner Microsoft, and the Best Buy Children’s Foundation to equip millions of youth with the skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven world. Through Club Tech, young people are learning essential digital skills, such as Web sites, electronic music, digital movies and photographic artwork, which will be entered into Boys & Girls Clubs Digital Arts Festival.
The Digital Arts Festival celebrates Club members’ creativity and technological ability and provides cash prizes for top entries. They create digital artwork in the following categories: Photo Illustration, Music Making, Movie Making, Web Design and Graphic Design.
This year marks Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Sixth Annual Club Tech Digital Arts Festivals, however it is the first year that entries will be recognized on a state level through the generous grant of $65,000 by AT&T New Jersey. AT&T understands that without effective computer and Internet training, children will miss out on educational and career advancement and on the chance to participate fully in our society.
As part of its ongoing support of economic and youth development programs, AT&T is funding Club Tech at the Boys & Girls Club to help youth from diverse backgrounds prepare for successful employment and productive careers. The grant to Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey will also support Club Tech programs in Camden, Paterson, Trenton, West Orange and Pequannock.
“By providing youth with daily access to computers and comprehensive technology instruction, Boys & Girls Clubs are closing the digital divide in many of New Jersey’s most distressed communities, and we are proud to support their efforts,” states Mike Schweder, President, AT&T New Jersey.
The New Jersey Digital Arts Festival winners will be announced on February 15.
